He's been feeling awful for a day or two now, and it's quickly becoming worse. What had started as being a little snappish, a lack of coordination and unprecedented difficulty in finding the words he'd wanted to say, had turned to aches all over his body, moments of disorientation, and an appetite that's unnaturally ravenous even for him. Then he'd started feeling afraid. It had become difficult to think. He's even more anxious and jumpier than usual. Even making his way to Crowley's room had been a struggle; all the halls had looked alike, swimming before his eyes.
Now he's slumped against the door, banging on it sluggishly, not caring who hears. His voice cracks as he calls out. ]
[When Aziraphale had first snapped at him, Crowley had taken it as a sign that the angel needed some space. 'Course he did, Crowley's been like a barnacle ever since they (helped encourage the boy who) thwarted the apocalypse, even an angel would lose his patience eventually with having a demon up his arse for days.
Er. Metaphorically speaking, obviously.
So he missed most of Aziraphale's decline, after that. Slept for about twelve hours straight, got up and went out to get snacks because his stomach was growling when he woke, poked around with his new powers a little, slept more... You know how it goes.
He'd been doing all those other things to try and distract himself from thinking about Aziraphale, and it wasn't working. But he already resolved to let the angel come to him, lest he be accused of being clingy. He wasn't clingy, he was just.
Bad at making friends.
He knows even before he hears Aziraphale's voice that something is wrong with whoever is banging on his door. But the urgency he feels multiplies tenfold when he hears his name, called out so plaintively. His heart stops for a second and then picks up double-time, as he trips on his own feet and stumbles on his way to the door.]
Aziraphale?
[He opens the door, and immediately has to catch the angel slumped against it to keep him from hitting the floor.]
[ Leaning his full weight against the door as he knocked and begged Crowley to open it is only the latest in a series of poor choices Aziraphale has made in the last forty-eight hours. He stumbles, thankfully falling into Crowley's ready arms rather than onto the floor, and clutches at him desperately. ]
If I knew that, I would be able to fix it.
[ It's not snippy this time, though, just pitiable and lost. Aziraphale looks beseechingly up at Crowley, hands twisting in the demon's shirt. His eyes are red-rimmed, lined underneath with dark bags that had never been there before. His lower lip trembles, threatening tears. He looks probably just as bad as he feels. ]
I - I think it's this place, Crowley, maybe angels aren't meant to be here.
[Crowley selects the file because he has no reason to expect the utter betrayal that is about to come.
His thoughts, as the smooth and dulcet tones of Rick Astley filter tinny through whatever magic serves as a speaker on his bracer, go on an emotional journey.
Did someone teach Aziraphale about rick rolling?
WHO?
WHY?
Is this a punishment for something?
...You know it is a pretty romantic song, actually. Haven't listened to the lyrics in a long time.]
Good to see you finally getting into "bebop," angel. What brought this on?
I told you..someone shared it and I thought you might enjoy.it.
[ Honestly, the odds are fifty/fifty on Aziraphale purposely rickrolling Crowley to be a bastard, and sharing the song because he'd truly found it romantic. In this case it just happens to be the latter. ]
I suppose it is a bit drfffertby to my usual style. But I don't
[ He doesn't know how to find the music that he's used to, here. He misses it, enough that he'd willingly listened to the "bebop" that Alex had shared, and found in it something worthwhile.
But this isn't about him or his music. It's about sharing something nice with Crowley. ]

[A carved pumpkin has been left outside of Monika and Crowley's room. It has a pen writing a swirly line carved into it. Some detail has been lost, as this has obviously not been made by an expert pumpkin carver, but they have clearly done their very best.
[ It's been a few weeks now, and Aziraphale, for one, has never been happier. They may have gone from wait-I-didn't-know-this-was-a-date to borderline excessive PDA on a dime, but things have actually been progressing fairly slowly since then. Currently, he's spending the evening, as he frequently does these days, curled up with Crowley on the sofa, the demon draped languidly all over him while Aziaphale reads a book.
But while normally the angel is quite content to read and quietly enjoy Crowley's company, tonight is different. He's restless, unable to concentrate on the page in front of him, and has to fight not to fidget. He keeps sneaking glances Crowley's way, too, just stealthily enough for the demon to be able to pretend to ignore them, but not nearly subtle enough that he could legitimately fail to notice them. Finally, he lets out a long-suffering sigh, turning his head and gazing mournfully away. Life is hard. Please pamper him. ]
[Crowley looks up from his position with his head on Aziraphale's lap when the angel finally sighs and makes that mournful face. Not that he hadn't noticed the fidgeting and restlessness - it's hard not to notice, when he has his head in the angel's lap.]
[ There it is, that sweet, sweet attention. Aziraphale shakes his head, making a show of waving it off. ]
Oh, it's nothing really.
[ There's a pause. Not a long one. He can't risk Crowley taking him at his word, after all.]
It's just -
[ He falters, genuinely this time, his expression growing sober. As self-centered as he can be, he really doesn't want to hurt Crowley's feelings, even slightly. So reassurances first. ]
...I am very happy. You do know that, don't you?
[ He glances down, carding his hand affectionately through Crowley's long hair. ]
[Michael doesn't know the other demon as well as he knows Aziraphale - and isn't that weird, that he's keeping company with so many angels now? Or maybe people would say it isn't.
At any rate, he's still found a gift for him. Hopefully that's okay? He isn't sure where Bible Demons stand on Christmas-like celebrations. Does the name of Jesus actually do him harm? Forking wild.]
Happy holidays. I doubt you care about any of this, but it's fun. Did Jesus actually come to your Hell and wreck things once? Humans used to mention that sometimes.
[A messily-wrapped box, with Crowley's name written directly on the colorful paper. There's a handmade card on top, decorated with stickers and doodles of wintry images like snow, gingerbread men, etc. It's not properly signed, but the signature isn't necessary. On one side of the interior:]
Tall green trees in lights twinkling bright, Sparkling strands of tinsel and snow pure white, The smell of hot cocoa and apple cider too, A very merry Candlenights, from Sayori to you!
[And then on the other side:]
Thank you for looking out for me in Thay. You've taken care of people before, right? You're pretty good at it! I had to guess a little but I had this from another mission and it seemed like something you would like.
[Inside the box is a small bottle of very fancy liquor from Lyrabar.]
[Well heck, now he has to actually consider getting Christmas Candlenights presents for people who aren't Aziraphale.
He spends a while mulling over the note, the gift, with a secret, solitary smile. Then he tracks down her room and leaves for her a red box with black velvet ribbon, and a black card with silver ink.]
When shadows fall on winter's darkest night, 'Tis hope we need to make our spirits light. The merriest of Candlenights to you- Good will for both the old year and the new.
A gift of alcohol is always appreciated. I have taken odd jobs over the years, been a nanny, governess, tutor, chaperone, whatever role was needed. Have you had any of those attacks since?
Hope you get some good wear out of these, The style suits you.
[Inside the box are three bow headbands, one in festive red plaid, one white satin, and one blue to match her eyes.]
[Sayori, of course, did all this with no expectation of anything in return, so coming back to see a gift from Crowley is a pleasant surprise. And—did he write this just for her? That's way too nice.
She messages him back a bit later.]
tysm for the gift its really sweet (❁´▽`❁)*✲゚* and the poem is so good i love it!!! have u written poetry before too???
and ive been ok i was just getting sick during the time loops bc of something that happened in wonderland (ノ_<。)
[And it did resurface a little when she was talking to the Literature Club about all that but, uh, it's fine.
Anyway. She also sends a goofy selfie of her wearing ALL THREE headbands at once, accompanied by a delighted grin.]
[ On December 25th, or as close to it as Aziraphale can manage to get, on a strange planet operating who knows what calendar, there's a knock on Crowley's door.
When he opens it, Aziraphale is standing there. He's smiling, obviously terribly happy to be there, and just as obviously still just a bit nervous. He's holding an elaborately wrapped gift - shiny golden paper, perfectly curled ribbon, the works - and he holds it out as soon as Crowley opens the door. ]
[He's tried to do a little bit better at the romancing thing, especially as it's given him a way to avoid the itch of rebelliousness under his skin, the one that rails and rankles at a God who either can't hear him or is screening his calls.
So to speak. Not that he's terribly unhappy to not have to deal with Demogorgon for the time being, but he feels vulnerable without any kind of magic. And he misses Mercury (which he definitely would never admit aloud).
Anyway, tangents about being abandoned by higher powers aside, the point is that all the free time has given him a chance to really focus on being sweet on his angel. Which means it's usually him dropping in unannounced, and bringing presents.
The surprise is enough to draw a beat of silence out of him, before he remembered the "Candlenights" present that he'd just finished cussing out and wrapping.]
You didn't have to get me anything, angel.
[As he reaches out both to take the present and to greet Aziraphale with a kiss.]
[ This is...a late gift. But it's a gift nonetheless. Alex leaves a signed card apologizing for it being late, a bottle of wine (thanks again) and...matching shirts. It specifically notes the pineapple is for Crowley, and the apple for Aziraphale. ]
[It's late on the night of the 25th when a noticeably well-wrapped package makes it's way to Crowley's door. Inside he'll find a gift specifically targeted at his interests and a very simple note:]
backdated, three days after arrival
He's been feeling awful for a day or two now, and it's quickly becoming worse.
